District Heating

The heating plant in Överkalix (Överkalix Värmeverk AB) has been fully owned by Överkalix Municipality since 2012.

The solid fuel system of the plant includes two biofuel boilers. The introduction of the newer, more efficient biofuel boiler has reduced the need for supplementary heating with oil during the coldest days of the year from approximately 6% to 1% of total energy usage.

Flue gas coolers, that take heat energy from humid flue gasses, have been installed to optimize energy usage. Continued investments in efficient flue gas technology has reduced particle emissions to levels significantly below the threshold set by the County Administrative Board.

Our biofuel comes from wood chips taken from forests in northern Sweden and Finland.
